On Wednesday, Serena Williams advanced to her 10th career Roland Garros quarterfinal by crushing Elina Svitolina, 6-1, 6-1. It's possible reporters got tired of asking her about another routine win because after the match, one of the questions went a little off topic.

Q: Obviously we’re here in Paris. You’re trying to win a very, very important tennis tournament. But I have a question: In our country we are having a major debate now whether a certain political figure is suitable or not suitable for the presidency. You have Donald Trump. You helped open his facility in Virginia. Could you comment on your thoughts about him?

That was one very roundabout way of asking: Are you voting for Trump?

Serena's response:

Yeah, I have met him several times, as I live in Palm Beach and everyone in Palm Beach kind of knows each other. I don’t get involved in politics. I don’t vote. It goes back to my religion, and I’m not involved at all in that political scene.

Williams is a Jehovah’s Witness, which means she maintains political neutrality.

The world No. 1 played a little tennis with the 2016 presidential candidate last year at the opening of his tennis center at the Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Va.

They've been linked together a few times more recently. The 69-year-old Republican frontrunner watched Serena play Venus Williams at the U.S. Open last year, they reportedly danced together on New Year's Eve and he once gifted her a framed photo of herself.

Meanwhile, on the court, Serena—the last U.S. singles player standing in Paris—will try to make America great again on clay. She'll face Yulia Putinseva in Thursday's quarterfinal.
