Serena says she is "Team No Vegemite"

In a rematch of their US Open quarterfinal, Serena Williams looked sharp as she swiftly posted a 6-1, 6-4 score against Tsvetana Pironkova to reach the quarterfinals of the Yarra Valley Classic. After the straight set win, the 23-time Grand Slam champion revealed she hasn't gone to any of her favorite restaurants in Melbourne just yet, but she's hoping to have a chance during the major event.

"Melbourne has literally "the" best restaurants, it's one of the few places I actually go outside," she said. "I'm, like, man, we'll figure it out. Maybe in Grand Slam week at least I'll have a day on and a day off and some time."

However, Serena could be getting "some time" off the court with play being at a standstill in Melbourne due to a quarantine worker at the Grand Hyatt testing positive for COVID-19. The 39-year-old's next match against American Danielle Collins will be postponed as 500-600 players, officials, and support staff go into isolation until returning a negative COVID-19 test.

Although Serena has competed in Australia for many years and has favorite restaurants, she's not too keen on Australian food and that includes Vegemite. The Australian food spread is made from leftover brewers' yeast extract with various vegetable and spice additives.

"Well, my husband's obsessed with Vegemite. I am not. I am Team No Vegemite, sorry," Serena said.

The world No. 11 has also never tried Kangaroo.

"I would never. I could never. I mean, those little guys are so cute. No. Yeah, so no. I keep it simple. Lots of other things but not that," Serena told reporters.

She may not be the biggest fan of Vegemite yet, but Aussie Ashleigh Barty recently converted American Jennifer Brady, so she could be coming for Serena next.

"I do love my Vegemite," Barty said. "I think if anyone wants to get some Aussie slang, all they have to do is walk past me really. I actually organized a jar of Bartymite for Jen [Brady], so she loved that, so she's a converted vegemite fan, which is always good.  Now just got to get her to try it with avocado, as well, on toast and she'll be fine."

The Australian Open remains scheduled to begin on Monday.
