Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, former No. 1's both on the comeback trail, have taken simultaneous trips to Italy ahead of the busy hard-court season. The two rivals are not in the same region, nor are they hanging out, of course, but both have been living it up in Europe.

Fresh off her inspiring run to the Wimbledon final, Williams had a craving for Italian food. Her husband whisked her away to Italy along with their nearly one-year-old daughter Olympia.

Olympia was clearly enjoying the stunning views of Venice, in the nation where her mom and dad first met.

Not too far away, Sharapova has been soaking up the summer sun on the Amalfi Coast following her first round Wimbledon loss.

The Russian has been taking in her own astonishing views from Positano. She and Serena nearly crossed paths at the French Open earlier this year, but Williams withdrew from their fourth-round match with a pectoral injury.

The 31-year-old Russian had time for a side trip to Isle of Capri just off the Amalfi coastline.

Sharapova has been spending quality time with her boyfriend Alexander Gilkes, a 39-year-old Brit who owns Paddle8, an art company based in New York.

Gilkes is friends with Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton, and attended the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. This means, given Williams' friendship with Prince Harry's wife, Meghan Markle, that Williams and Sharapova's lives may intersect even more in the future.

Sharapova's schedule has been unpredictable as she most recently withdrew from San Jose, while Williams has accepted a wildcard into the Roger's Cup in Montreal.
