Sidney has previously starred in projects including the 2016 film Hidden Figures. Singleton's credits include Broadway roles in The Lion King and School of Rock.
The film also cast its Oracene Price actress, to be portrayed by Aunjanue Ellis, the Emmy-nominated star of When They See Us who is set to appear in Lovecraft Country on HBO, produced by J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele. She will appear opposite screen superstar Will Smith, who will inhabit the movie's titular role.
Reinaldo Marcus Green, director of 2018 film *Monsters and Men*, will oversee this project as well. Zach Baylin is the screenwriter, and Smith's co-star in work and life, Jada Pinkett Smith, is among the coterie of executive producers.
Even casual tennis fans are well acquainted with Richard and Oracene's raising of daughters Venus and Serena to international fame and fortune. From their Compton, California, origin story to Florida training to the global takeover of a traditionally lily-white sport, the film all but writes itself.
As Sidney said on Instagram, "Game on." King Richard is set for a November 25, 2020, release.
