Eugenie Bouchard and Maria Sharapova sounded off ahead of their first-round clash at the Mutua Madrid Open early this week. "I don't have anything to say," Sharapova said of her peer who had leveled heavy criticism at her prior to drawing her in a match. "I am way above that."
Bouchard would go on to beat Sharapova by a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 count, with 49 unforced errors sprayed off the Russian's racquet. What Sharapova hasn't proven to be "way above" appears to be liking a tweet about Bouchard after the fact of their tense battle:
