Maria Sharapova journeyed to San Juan, Puerto Rico to play in a Thursday night exhibition with the island nation's greatest darling, gold medalist Monica Puig.

The Russian, still serving a suspension from the ITF until April, was greeted with nothing but love and cheers. She was making just her second public tennis appearance since announcing her failed drug test for meldonium back in March.

Sharapova was in such great spirits thanks to the massive crowd that she danced, a lot.

Puig would win the match, 6-3, 1-6, 10-6, but it was more a celebration of Puerto Rico's growing interest in tennis than anything else.

"I think tonight is a combination of a few things," Sharapova said. "First and most importantly, its because of Monica—without her and with her career and her path with what she achieved in the summer with the Olympics, none of us would be here tonight."

The event also really showed off how Sharapova and Puig have become fast friends.

Puig also had only great things to say about the five-time Grand Slam champion.
