What’s New
This third edition with FlyteFoam cushioning sees its upper lose a significant amount of TPU from the previous model and substitute a woven mesh. The swap lowers the shoe’s weight, while upping its breathability, pliability and comfort. The Twisstruss support shank in the midsole, now called Speedtruss, has been made more flexible for better snapback and spring into each step. And the new Precision-Sole outsole has been reconfigured with less material in low wear areas to also decrease weight.
What Works
With a feathery feel and minimalist silhouette, the Solution Speed FF 3 is lightweight personified. The franchise has always been geared toward the fleet-footed crowd, and this update has a decided track shoe vibe. It even resembles the brand’s storied DS Trainer.
Compared to the outgoing model, the FF 3 is even trimmer. Strategic alterations managed to cut 16g off the shoe. It may not seem like a lot, but when a shoe is already so light to begin with, those are Ozempic worthy results.
Using rubber more sparingly in the upper helps this cause. There’s still some located in high wear areas—toe, medial side of the toe box and lower eyelets—that tend to take a beating from repeated sliding and shoe dragging. But a larger portion of the upper is covered by a tightly woven mesh. It makes the shoe airier and more comfortable, with just enough toughness to endure intense movement.
The cut of the shoe is slightly snug. It narrows toward the tip, giving it its aerodynamic bullet shape. The forgiveness of the upper allows for an adaptable fit that should work for just about anyone outside of players with rather wide feet. That supportive squeeze gives a superb connection to the shoe that enhances the feeling of weightlessness.
