There were plenty of memorable moments over the 15-day fortnight of the Australian Open, but nothing topped when tennis' biggest stars channeled the "happiest mammal on planet."

Players often visit Australia's animal sanctuaries each year during their trip Down Under, and come home with plenty of selfies with Australia's famous wildlife including koalas, emus and quokkas. But this year in Melbourne, the tables were turned. Eventual champions Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner led a cast of characters who tried their best to encapture the mannerisms of a quokka, complete with the chubby-cheeked perma-grin smile that has made it a viral social media sensation for the last decade. (Just ask Roger Federer.)

It was harder than it looked. Take it from Coco Gauff.

"A quokka? They're cute," the US Open champion quipped. "I'm not that!"

Some, like Emma Raducanu and Holger Rune, tried their best to get "mousy."

"This is my impression of a quokka," the Brit proclaimed as she inflated her cheeks, while the Dane opted for a scrunched-up nose.

Others, like Andrey Rublev and Ben Shelton, called on some some pop-culture inspiration. Donning a pair of rose-colored glasses, Rublev removed them for his scene-stealing effort, while Shelton's attempt could only be described as channeling the famous character Dr. Evil from the "Austin Powers" film franchise. Returning to the Australian Open for the first time after lengthy sabbaticals, former champions Angelique Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki were, expectedly, a little rusty in their attempts.

But utlimately, just as they did over two weeks on court, Sabalenka and Sinner rose to the occasion most impressively with two big smiles, while Sabalenka added a look of surprise for added comedic effect.

What's that old saying? Winners are grinners?

Well, they now know that quokkas are, too.
