No, that is not a misprint—the VCore Tour F is indeed a 93 square-inch frame with 21 cross strings. While having the most cross strings in the smallest head of any racquet we tested would seem to be antithetical in an increasingly spin-happy game, this Yonex manages to carve its own impressive identity. The sweet spot is ample and comfortable given the head size, and power can be had on serves and ground strokes for those players who don’t need much help generating it. But it’s certainly not for players with moderate swings and less-than-stellar technique.
The same goes for spin—if you’re already proficient at applying it, you’ll find a sufficient level. Slice backhands jet through the court. But this frame is about precision and control. Nowhere was that more evident than at net, where the small head size, easy handling and superb feel at contact made for great volleying. It’s definitely a niche stick, but it should find a following with midsize frame loyalists, high-level doubles players and talented all-courters.
