Jack Sock is doing everything he can to end 2018, and his partnership with Mike Bryan, on a high note. His singles season ended on a 9-21 record, but his doubles season may still end with another title.

This time last year, the 26-year-old was ranked No. 9 and competing in the singles draw of the ATP Finals. He earned his spot at the last minute by winning his first ATP Masters 1000 in Paris, and made it all the way to the semifinals in London.

But now, Sock is ranked No. 106 in singles, and is only competing in the doubles tournament. He's making the best of it, as he and Bryan have won both their matches in straight sets.  In his first match, Sock showed off his blistering forehand against Marcelo Melo and Lukasz Kubot:

That forehand can be mistaken for a lethal weapon, as Melo found out the hard way:

Sock's firepower didn't end there. Against Mate Pavic and Oliver Marach on Wednesday, Sock brought his A game from start to finish:

His SABR-like forehand return deserves another look:

Sock and Bryan are poised to advance to the semifinal stage, and are tournament favorites after winning Wimbledon and the US Open together.

But, the dream team's days together are numbered. Mike Bran's twin brother, Bob, just announced he plans to return to the tour in January. Bob Bryan underwent hip surgery in August, and Sock has always said he was just filling in.

Sock will likely use the new free time to refocus on his singles career. His quarterfinal run in Paris last month gave him enough points to secure the Men's Australian Open Wild Card Challenge, guaranteeing him a spot in the main draw in Melbourne.
