With No. 15-ranked Jannik Sinner celebrating his 20th birthday on Monday—and with a win, no less, beating Argentina's Federico Delbonis, 6-2, 7-5, in the first round of Cincinnati—there’s a new No. 1 teenager on the ATP rankings this week.

That new No. 1 teenager is Carlos Alcaraz, who turned 18 in May.

TEENAGERS IN THE TOP 200 OF THE ATP RANKINGS (August 16, 2021)
No. 55 Carlos Alcaraz, Spain (18)
No. 62 Lorenzo Musetti, Italy (19)
No. 139 Juan Manuel Cerundolo, Argentina (19)
No. 162 Holger Rune, Denmark (18)
No. 189 Jiri Lehecka, Czech Republic (19)

Having come into 2021 ranked No. 141, Alcaraz broke the Top 100 in May after winning a Challenger title in Portugal, rising from No. 114 to No. 94. He then made two more big jumps, going from No. 97 to No. 78 after qualifying and reaching the third round of Roland Garros, then from No. 73 to No. 55 after winning his first ATP title in Umag.

The Spaniard isn’t just the highest-ranked teenager on the ATP rankings, he’s also the youngest man in the Top 400. He’s the second-youngest man in the Top 500, after No. 429-ranked Shintaro Mochizuki of Japan, who’s four weeks younger than him.
