Stephens rediscovers magic on U.S. soil to win Miami

It's been a milestone-filled Miami fortnight for Sloane Stephens, who, in the span of one tournament, turned 25, cracked the Top 10 and won her first Premier Mandatory title.

The result is all the more impressive when considering her past year has been, to put it lightly, a roller coaster.

During the Miami Open last year, Stephens was recovering from foot surgery, and was still months away from being able to play. She spent her time trying working as a correspondent for Tennis Channel.

The 25-year-old returned to competition at Wimbledon in July, but without much scoreboard success. She fell to Alison Riske in the first round.

But after building up some steam over the summer hard-court season, Stephens enjoyed the highlight of her career by winning the US Open.

However, an understandable hangover followed, and she wouldn't win a match from that September day until the end of February 2018—an eight-match losing streak.

She did get some off-court victories, though, including receiving her college degree.

And starring in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue.

Of course, she went on to have a return to form on the spring hard courts on U.S. soil, with wins over Garbine Muguruza, Angelique Kerber, Victoria Azarenka and Jelena Ostapenko to win the Miami title.

She's scheduled to play this week on the green clay in Charleston.
