Daniil Medvedev cruised past Marcos Giron at the Australian Open on Monday, sending a clear message to the field after dropping just three games in a 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 rout.

But his post-match message on the camera lens was a bit less clear, with fans and commentators struggling to make sense of the series of lines, circles and squiggles that the world No. 8 drew with a marker.

Medvedev took to social media to clear things up and dropped some major branding news in the process, as he unveiled a new personal logo created in collaboration with apparel sponsor Lacoste.

“Very happy to launch my own logo with Lacoste,” Medvedev announced on Twitter. “A very unique design in link with my everyday passions.”

The elements are arranged to evoke the look of an old-school video game controller’s D-pad, with Medvedev’s initials D and M making up the left and right 'buttons', an abstract tennis ball as 'up' and two stylized lines referencing the “ii” in 'Daniil' as 'down'.

Sponsored by Lacoste since 2019, the logo is a nod to Medvedev’s well known love for playing video games. The former world No. 1 famously flopped over in celebration after winning the 2021 US Open title, recreating the viral "dead fish" celebration popular in FIFA games.

Medvedev’s logo will feature on his Lacoste apparel and shoes, as well as his Tecnifibre gear.

"This new logo on this dedicated collection is a real pride for me," Medvedev told Forbes. "It's the first time a partner has offered it to me. It was a real team effort with the Lacoste creative studio...

“It perfectly reflects all my passions: tennis with the circle, for example, which evokes the tennis ball and gaming."

According to Forbes, the logo will feature on Medvedev’s Lacoste apparel and shoes, as well as on his Tecnifibre gear—including his racquet strings—as the French racquet manufacturer is also owned by Lacoste.

Medvedev, the No. 7 seed, advanced to the second round, where he will face Australia’s John Millman next.
