Just like past versions of the frame, the new Pure Aero is designed for booming serves, heavy spin ground strokes, and baseline warfare. But unlike previous Aero releases, this is the first time Babolat has issued a Tour (heavier) version, with this model tipping the scale at nearly 12 oz.
The added mass results in a more solid feel and greater backbone when compared to the standard Pure Aero—its stability is fantastic for turning around hard-hit shots with interest, most notably on the return of serve—and, while more demanding to swing, increases the plow-through and weight of shot.
The racquet houses Babolat’s new FSI (Frame String Interaction) Spin technology— wider spacing between the strings for enhanced spin and pop. The end result is an exceedingly lively string bed. The ball just wants to jump off the face, sometimes when you don’t want it to. Flattening out an attempted put-away also drew the occasional wild error. But that’s the bitter and the sweet of a racquet with plenty of inherent power. Fans of previous Aeros who craved the added sturdiness and weight of shot of a beefier, sturdier version have to give this one a try.
