Before the coronavirus suspended tennis indefinitely and halted life as we know it, Tatjana Maria had already planned to take a break from hitting forehands and backhands for another important reason.

In a video Maria filmed for the WTA presenting a glimpse of a day around her house in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., the 32-year-old revealed she and husband Charles are set to provide six-year-old daughter Charlotte with a new playmate.

“In Monterrey, we decided to take a break from tournaments and to stay at home with my family, because Charlotte will get a little brother or a little sister. We are super excited,” the German said. Maria is currently ranked No. 93, a position she will maintain while the WTA rankings are frozen.

The winner of one singles title and three doubles trophies on tour, the former No. 46 made clear she intends on returning to the sport after her pregnancy.“I’m still practicing to come back stronger than before,” she said. “I hope everybody is healthy, staying at home and I wish you all the best.”
