Vandeweghe x Second Serve

American stars Taylor Fritz and CoCo Vandewghe lent their time and support to a worthwhile cause this week.

The cause in question: Second Serve, a non-profit organization which is, according to their website, “dedicated to enhancing the lives of underprivileged kids who love tennis by supporting them with the equipment they need.”

Fresh off a run to the third round of Wimbledon following a knee surgery, Fritz donated headbands and shoes, some of which a youngster named Sam showed off on Second Serve’s social media.

Vandeweghe was on hand over the weekend to help lead a Second Serve fundraiser at Rancho Santa Fe Tennis Club. The former world No. 9 hosted a youth clinic and posed for pictures with a slew of young fans.

Second Serve accepts donations of gently used tennis equipment in underserved communities in the hopes of catalyzing their introduction to a sport whose expenses are often a barrier to entry.

Founded by sisters Amani and Ayanna Shah in 2019, Second Serve has supplied over 6,000 pieces of tennis clothing and equipment to children in countries ranging from the United States, Mexico, India, and Uganda.

“I think it’s really fun,” Ayanna said in an interview last winter. “A couple of months ago we sent a shipment out to Uganda with a couple of our old racquets, and to see the pictures of the kids, with our rackets, is just really nice to see the impact.”
