Mother’s Day in the U.S. may not be until this coming Sunday, but we thought we’d give an early shoutout to Taylor Townsend now.

Over the weekend, the American captured her first title as a mom in just the third tournament of her return to action. Following quarterfinal runs at ITF World Tour events in Palm Harbor, Fla. and Charlottesville, Va., Townsend triumphed at the W100 stop in Charleston, S.C.

The 26-year-old’s week began by dropping her opening set, 6-1, to Francoise Abanda. But after that, Townsend conceded just one more set along the way, another 6-1 opener to Katie Volynets in the quarterfinals.

Townsend, who lost to Volynets in her first event, defeated the third-seeded 20-year-old for the second consecutive week, before exacting revenge on No. 5 seed Wang Xiyu in the final. Wang rolled 6-4, 6-1 in Charlottesville, but Townsend returned the favor by allowing only five games in her victory (6-3, 6-2).

In October 2020, Townsend shared the news of her pregnancy on Instagram and in March 2021, gave birth to a boy, Adyn Aubrey. Later that year, she took up the opportunity to join Tennis Channel as a commentator and in-studio analyst, when Townsend asserted her comeback was on.

Based on what she’s displayed in less than a month’s time, we’d say there is a lot more to come for TayTay!
