It has been a breakthrough year for Russian Aslan Karatsev. He claimed his first career ATP Tour title at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, defeating Lloyd Harris in straight sets on Saturday.

The 27-year-old entered the tournament as a wild card and overwhelmed the South African with winners, increasing his current win record to 12-2 for the season. Comparatively, Karatsev only won three tour-level matches all of 2020.

Karatsev is only the third Russian this year to win an ATP title, alongside Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev. Both are names any player would be proud to stand alongside of.

"You never know when [success] is coming. I did a good job with my team, with my coach and it has happened now," Karatsev said after the match.

The 27-year-old started his breakthrough year with a semifinal run at the Australian Open this year, losing to Novak Djokovic.
