The Oscar-winning (and headline-stealing) King Richard film may be just the first chapter of the Williams family cinematic universe, according to a recent Serena Williams interview.
“King Richard had a perfect ending with Venus on the tennis court,” Serena told Insider.
But that doesn’t mean there isn’t more to the story—after all, Serena and older sister Venus both went on to become world No. 1s and have lifted Grand Slam trophies numbering in the double digits throughout their decades-long careers.
The drama contained in their sometimes parallel and sometimes diverging paths to the top—and all the twists and turns, injuries and comebacks, controversies and moments of glory in between—should make for plenty of popcorn viewing.
“Venus goes in her direction, and I go in my direction. It's two completely different stories,” said Serena, who was a co-executive producer of King Richard.
“I had a rough journey. I didn't do well and then I did. It's a lot of drama. It's a telenovela.”
