The 2018 season may be the year of comebacks. It's been three years since Bernard Tomic won an ATP title, and the Aussie finally broke the curse by defeating Fabio Fognini in the final of the Chengdu Open, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7).

Tomic's previous title was Bogota in 2015. Since then the 25-year-old has seen a slump in form and rankings. With the title win, Tomic will rise to world No. 76, jumping back into the Top 100 for the first time since August 2017.

It was a tense final set against the top seed, with Tomic saving four match points before wrapping things up in 2 hours and 15 minutes. He denied Fognini's chance to be the first Italian man to win four singles titles in one season, following title wins in Sao Paulo, Bastad and Los Cabos.
