Roger Federer opted to skip the inaugural ATP Cup and chose to keep his focus towards the first Grand Slam of the year. On Monday, the 20-time major champion was getting a feel for the courts, on which he will be competing for his fifth title.

Former world No. 1 Angelique Kerber picked up her first win of 2020 by ousting China’s Wang Qiang 6-1, 6-3, in Adelaide. Kerber will next face Dayana Yastremska for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Mikael Ymer got revenge over Frances Tiafoe, who he recently lost to at the Next Gen ATP Finals. World No. 76-ranked Ymer posted a 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 win over the American to advance to Auckland's second round.

Simona Halep made her first on-court 2020 appearance on the doubles court, partnering with fellow Romanian Raluca Olaru. The two fell short against the No. 2 seeds Kveta Peschke and Demi Schuurs 6-7 (2), 6-4, 3-10 in Adelaide. Halep will make her singles debut against Ajla Tomljanovic on Tuesday.

Ashleigh Barty traded her racquets for professional golfer Minjee Lee's golf clubs. The two posed for photos alongside River Torrens in Adelaide. Barty will take on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in her opening round.
