Michael Mmoh is on an upward trajectory after fighting his way through the Australian Open qualifying, and winning a main-draw match, before falling to Rafael Nadal in the second round. But Nishioka prevailed, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, in their opening round clash at Singapore's ATP 250 event.

The No. 5 seed will face Maxime Cressy next.

Ajla Tomljanovic

The Aussie was not able to catch a break in her opening round in Adelaide against countrywoman Storm Sanders. The world No. 74 only put three games up on the scoreboard, falling, 6-1, 6-2, to the 26-year-old. Tomljanovic hasn't reached the third round at a WTA event since the Zhengzou Open in 2019.

Coco Gauff

The 16-year-old inched past Italian Jasmine Paolini, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-2, in an over two-hour battle. Gauff has claimed three consecutive matches for the first time this season and will take on No. 6 seed Petra Martic on Wednesday.

Yannick Hanfmann

The German got dealt a tough Andrey Rublev in his opening round at this year's Australian Open. After falling short in both events Down Under, he captured his first win of the season by knocking out Aussie James Duckworth, 6-2, 6-4, in Singapore. Hanfmann will go up against No. 6 seed Radu Albot in the second round.
