Matteo Berrettini upends Gael Monfils

The Italian just served up a 6-2, 6-4 win against 2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem and continued to roll on Wednesday by taking out Frenchman Gaël Monfils, 6-4, 6-2. Fabio Fognini gave the Italians a 1-0 lead over France, and it seemed as though the Italians were headed for a doubles decider when Berrettini trailed Monfils 4-1 in the first set.

That quickly changed as the world No. 10 captured nine of the next 10 games. Italy is through to the ATP Cup's final four.

Double Trouble

Over at the WTA's Yarra Valley Classic, Ashleigh Barty and Jennifer Brady are preparing to take the big stage together for the first time at next week's Grand Slam. The Aussie and American duo posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Ons Jabeur and Christina McHale to reach the quarterfinals. They will face No. 2 seeds Demi Schuurs and Nicole Melichar next.

Playing his first event in 12 months at the Murray River Open, Nick Kyrgios had another solid day on the court, taking out countryman Harry Bourchier, 6-2, 7-6 (7) to set up a third-round clash with Borna Coric in Melbourne.

Carlos Alcaraz Captures Biggest Win

At the Great Ocean Road event (also in Melbourne), the 17-year-old pulled off the biggest win of his career against world No. 14 David Goffin. The Spaniard was one of 72 players who went without practice during two weeks of hard quarantine, yet produced a 6-3, 6-3 win over the event's top seed to reach the Round of 16.
