It was a huge day for American players at the Volvo Car Open. A couple of rising stars fought to stay alive, while one tour veteran captured her biggest win in quite some time.

The American erased a set deficit against last year's Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin, and posted a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 scoreline to move into the last 16. This marks her biggest win in the past seven years, and she will next face a tough competitor in Coco Gauff.

The Charleston No. 5 seed showed tremendous heart by saving two match points and pushing Paula Badosa to a deciding set. However, the Swiss player just couldn't maintain momentum and fell, 2-6, 7-6 (2), 1-6, to the Spaniard.

Ons Jabeur

That's four consecutive round of 16 appearances for the Tunisian player. Jabeur captured a seamless 6-3, 6-3 win against American Hailey Baptiste and will take on Alize Cornet next.

Veronika Kudermetova

In her past five events, the Russian has struggled to put together two consecutive wins, but that all changed on Wednesday. Kudermetova defeated Emma Navarro, 6-4, 6-4, to move into the event's last 16, where she will battle qualifier Kurumi Nara.
