Naomi Osaka's original decision to withdraw from her semifinal match would end up halting all of the Western & Southern Open's play on Thursday. After lengthy conversations with the WTA and USTA, the she, and everyone else, returned to the court on Friday.
Osaka took the court wearing a Black Lives Matter shirt and continued to pick her spots with precision while maintaining her aggressive style of play. Her 6-2, 7-6 (5) win over Elise Mertens sets up a final clash against Victoria Azarenka.
Meanwhile, Milos Raonic continued his exceptional level of play by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas, 7-6 (5), 6-3, to reach the final. Raonic will have the ultimate test against world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in Saturday's final after the Serbian outlasted Roberto Bautista Agut in three hours.
