Welcome to Florida Week! As the tours head southeast for the Miami Open, TENNIS.com and Baseline will feature all things Sunshine State. You’ll learn about the personalities, stories, teams and venues that have made Florida one of the tennis capitals of the world. We’ll also be reporting from the Miami Open in Key Biscayne.

As you’ll learn this week, when it comes to tennis, Florida isn’t just a state—it’s a state of mind.

The University of Miami Hurricanes are a force to be reckoned within the Sunshine state, especially the women. Sixty-three ITA All-American Honors, 27 ITA All-Americans and 21 consecutive NCAA Team Championship berths are just a few of the achievements that the Miami women's team has accomplished.

Christian Langmo is starting the second half of his career at Miami in the 2017 season. In the fall of 2016 he posted a 10-4 winning record while in the spring he's ahead 7-1. By early March he was ranked No. 81 in the country with a career-high of No. 70 in the beginning of the season.

The Women

Loaded with accolades and wins, Sinead Lohan is a star on the Hurricanes team having finished the previous season with a 40-6 record in singles. The Irish native was named All-American and was the first Miami player to be a Top 8 seed in the NCAA Individual Championships since 2011. By the end of the season, she was tied for the third-most wins in a season at Miami.

Brand new to the Hurricane team, Aljosa Piric joined the University of Miami in June of 2016. While he hasn't had the chance to show off his knowledge quite yet, his achievements for previous teams are impressive. He has worked with Old Dominion University for five seasons and was named the 2016 WIlson/ITA Coach of the Year for the Atlantic Region. He led that team to a 37-8 record, bringing them from no ranking to a nationally recognized No. 28-ranked team.

He also helped coach the 2014 Bosnia and Herzegovina Davis Cup team.

Last season was Paige Yaroshuk-Tews' 15th year as head coach at the University of Miami. She has made the women's program a household name nationally, taking the team to the NCAA's Elite Eight in eight of the last 13 seasons. They have also made the Sweet 16 in each of the past 11 years, the third-longest streak in the country. Going into 2017, Yaroshuk-Tews held an impressive overall record of 306-91 (0.771).

Lohan managed to rocket to the Final Four in the NCAA Singles Championships last spring, becoming only the seventh Hurricane to reach the semifinals of the tournament. She's ranked No. 11 in the nation. She and Maci Epstein are No. 59 in doubles.

In 2017, the women are ranked No. 37 and have another singles player, Estela Perez-Somarriba in the ITA singles rankings at No. 33.
