Top players to begin comebacks at Mubadala

This year’s Mubadala World Tennis Championship could easily be dubbed “the comeback trail.”

The exhibition tournament, starting on December 28 in Abu Dhabi, has consistently drawn top ranked players in the past, but this year’s 10th edition comes with a bit more intrigue than usual.

It notably marks the return of Novak Djokovic—now ranked an unseemly No. 12—after cutting his 2017 short with an elbow injury. Stan Wawrinka and Milos Raonic, coming off their own injury-shortened seasons, will also begin their comebacks at the exhibition.

Another interesting storyline to follow: Can Top 10 newcomers in Dominic Thiem and Pablo Carenno Busta assert their place among greats like, Wawrinka, Djokovic and Rafael Nadal? Or will they be content to just put on a good show for the crowd?

World No. 1 Nadal withdrew from Paris and the ATP Finals in London with a knee injury only a month ago. The announcement that he’ll compete at Abu Dhabi would seem to indicate the knee is healed enough for him play, but keep an eye on any news coming from Nadal’s camp as Mubadala approaches.
