Haddad Maia has been hitting all the right notes on court in 2023, having wrapped a breakout season by sweeping the singles and doubles titles at the WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai.

“I would like to express my heartfelt thanks,” she wrote in a long post looking back on her season. “To those of you who sent positive energies, who cheered me on every point achieved with a lot of sweat, thank you very much. It is and will always be from the heart.”

In addition to her Zhuhai run, “Bia” enjoyed numerous career milestones, including a Top 10 debut in singles and a maiden major semifinal run at Roland Garros, where she stunned former world No. 2 Ons Jabeur in three dramatic sets. She also partnered Victoria Azarenka on the doubles court to win the Mutua Madrid Open.

Finishing a second straight season ranked inside the Top 20, Haddad Maia will officially end her year at the Billie Jean King Cup, where she will lead Brazil against South Korea in front of what will surely be an enthusiastic home crowd at the Arena BRB in Brasilia.
