Coco Gauff's US Open win is having national implications. On Tuesday, U.S. senators Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.), and Rick Scott (R-Fla.) passed a bipartisan resolution to congratulate the American teenager on her historic US Open victory last month.

With her win in New York, Gauff became the youngest American to win a Grand Slam title since Serena Williams in 1999, and the senators who introduced the resolution represent Gauff's two home states of Florida (Gauff resides in Delray Beach) and Georgia (Gauff was born in Atlanta).

“Coco Gauff is an inspiration to millions of young girls and boys across the country with her passion for the sport, faith and victories,” the resolution read. “Resolved, That the Senate congratulates Coco Gauff for her inspiring victory at this year’s US Open Tennis Championships."

The Senate passed the resolution unanimously.

The news came on the heels of Gauff's opening victory at the WTA Finals on Monday night, as she routed Ons Jabeur 6-0, 6-1 for her first win at the season-ending event after going 0-6 combined in singles and doubles last year on debut.

She's bidding to become the first teenager to win at the year-end championships since Maria Sharapova in 2004.
