Late in the third set of the Nick Kyrgios and Viktor Troicki match in Melbourne, bad luck struck chair umpire James Keothavong by way of a wayward ball.

Troicki apologized profusely, but Keothavong was unharmed and play continued without much of a hitch. It seems the technologically-advanced new umpire chair wasn't equipped to save him from erratic returns.

This viral moment came after the chair microphone wouldn't work, causing plenty of distraction for both players and fans.

"Obviously it was tough. It felt like I was playing at another tournament," Kyrgios said. "I didn't hear the microphone, no music at change of ends. It was a strange atmosphere."

But the crowd still backed the Aussie with intensity.

"They found all the distractions pretty amusing," he said. "It's good to have the crowd behind me. Obviously when the times get tough, you hit a good shot, the crowd gets behind you, it's a good feeling."

Kyrgios would win the second-round match, 7-5, 6-4, 7-6 (2) to set up a clash with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
