It was the longest women's singles match ever at the US Open: a compelling, gloriously fought 3-hour, 31-minute bout between Shelby Rogers and Daria Gavrilova.

The latter had been a tournament champ a week earlier in New Haven, Connecticut. The former was aching and ready for a cool-down–and a meal.

Rogers provided one of this event's quotables after seizing the victory, addressing her post-marathon plan: “Ice bath, straight to dining. That was a long time to go without eating.”

Spoken like a true workhorse. Rogers' run would end soon after, as she fell to Elina Svitolina in a fairly tight third-round battle.

So it was no bona fide, post-drama slump for Rogers, who shrugged off a fiendish net-cord finish to her ensuing loss but took away a peak moment as her name entered the US Open records books.
