Why to bet on Victoria Azarenka

  • Azarenka is fresh off a run to the Miami Open semifinals, where she earned wins over Peyton Stearns, Qinwen Zheng, Katie Boulter and Yulia Putintseva. She nearly beat Elena Rybakina, the 2024 runner-up and 2023 champion, in the semifinals.
  • Azarenka is now 16-6 since the start of the 2024 season, giving her the highest winning percentage (66.0%) she has had since 2021.
  • Part of the reason Azarenka is in such a nice groove ths year is that her hold percentage is up to 74.4%. That’s the highest mark she has had since 2016, when she went 26-5 on the year.
  • Azarenka has also broken serve at 37.1% this year, giving her an edge over Pegula when it comes to serving, and only the slightest disadvantage when the ball isn’t on her racquet.
  • Azarenka is 115-60 on clay in her career, and she has a slight edge over Pegula on the dirt when it comes to winning percentage.

Why to bet on Jessica Pegula

  • Pegula made it to the quarterfinals in Miami last week, defeating Lin Zhu, Leylah Fernandez and Emma Navarro along the way.
  • The American is now 11-6 since the start of the 2024 season, and she has righted the ship after a poor start to the year.
  • Pegula has won seven of her last 10 matches, upping her win percentage to 64.7%.
  • Pegula’s run of seven wins in 10 matches coincides with her decision to move on from coach David Witt after the Australian Open.
  • The American has spent a lot of time re-tooling her serve, and she has made at least 66.0% of her first serves in six consecutive matches. She’s now making more of her first serves (60.4%) than she has in any season since 2020.
  • One of the main issues with Pegula is that she’s winning only 47.4% of her secon- serve points. That’s the second-lowest mark she has had since jumping to the WTA Tour full time.
  • Pegula is breaking at a 37.7% clip this season. That’s the 13th-highest break percentage on tour in 2024. She’s eighth in break percentage over the last 52 weeks.
  • Pegula is a career 32-20 (61.5%) when playing on clay, making this her second-best surface as far as winning percentage.
