Andrey Rublev Marat Safin Barcelona Practice

New evidence in support of reports about Andrey Rublev’s coaching-staff changes has emerged, as the Russian was spotted in Barcelona training alongside former No. 1 Marat Safin.

The two-time Grand Slam champion will be making his coaching debut in Andrey Rublev’s corner during the clay-court season, according to tennis journalist Sofya Tartakova, and this practice footage seems to confirm her report:

“The conversation [with Marat] showed I was also lying to myself about many things and I didn’t want to understand or notice them,” Rublev said earlier this year about being unofficially mentored by the International Tennis Hall of Famer. “You need someone who can make you see yourself in an honest way.”

Safin is expected to join Rublev’s coaching team for the ATP Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo, alongside current and remaining head coach Fernando Vicente.
