NEW YORK—Aryna Sabalenka won a tennis match and one commentator lost his damn mind.

A clip of his reaction to Sabalenka’s comeback win over Madison Keys early Friday morning quickly went viral on Twitter/X, giving viewers everything from quoting Daniil Medvedev’s “Vamo” rant to a full-throated rendition of “Eye of the Tiger.”

Sabalenka, who enjoys the “Tiger” nickname inspired by her famed forearm tattoo, certainly gave fans plenty to cheer for after shaking off a 6-0 opening set and 5-3 deficit in the second to win a pair of tiebreakers—one longer than she expected—and reach her first US Open final.

But not even the No. 2 seed could have been prepared for this impromptu karaoke performance from the booth—especially after enduring a pro-American crowd in the semifinals.

“I would prefer to have someone else or crowd would be, like, a little bit probably like same to both players,” she said after the Arthur Ashe Stadium atmosphere after her 0-6, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (10-5) victory, “but, I mean, today's match I think gonna help me in the finals, because I mean, I'll be fine with this support. I'll be all right.”

Set to rise to No. 1 in the WTA rankings on Monday regardless of her performance in Flushing, the reigning Australian Open holds out hope some of that commentator’s energy will show up as she takes on another American favorite in Coco Gauff on Saturday.

“I'll still hoping, I'm still hoping that probably some of them will be supporting me,” she said, jokingly pleading. “Will be just a little bit. Just sometimes, please. Please!”
