WATCH: Del Potro celebrates historic win with a splash

Needless to say, Juan Martin del Potro was pretty excited to win a thrilling final over Roger Federer in Indian Wells on Sunday. So excited, in fact, that he jumped into a tub of water like a joyous little kid.

The 29-year-old has every right to be really pleased with himself. It's his first career ATP Masters 1000 title and the biggest win of his life after his 2009 US Open crown.

After missing out on a match point in the second-set tiebreaker on Sunday, Del Potro had to fight back from a break down against the defending champion and current world No. 1 to win, 6-4, 6-7 (8), 7-6 (2).

"It was horrible moment for me," Del Potro said about needing to save three match points at 4-5 in the third set. "I was still thinking about my forehand miss and my forehand error—mistake in the match point. And, I mean, it's my shot, you know, my forehand from that side of the court. I never miss that forehand."

The world No. 6 is the first Argentinian champion ever at the BNP Paribas Open and snapped Federer's 17-match win streak (this is Federer's first loss of 2018). Del Potro holds a 4-2 record over Federer in finals (though the Swiss leads their overall head-t0-head 18-7).

"I like to play finals against him, because nobody has nothing to lose," Del Potro said. "But I like to play against him, and I enjoy a lot the crowd, the atmosphere, the feelings on that court when he comes and play finals. Of course, when you have nothing to lose, your game improve a little bit."

Asked about his further celebration plans, Del Potro said,  "I cannot tell you. It will be Miami, maybe tomorrow, but that's enough."
