WATCH: Djokovic smashes racquet in Monte Carlo

Novak Djokovic proved he's human with a dramatic racquet smash during his opening round in Monte Carlo. On Tuesday, the top seed was taking on Philipp Kohlschreiber just a few weeks after losing to him in Indian Wells.

Djokovic would win 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, and the racquet annihilation came when he was broken in the second set. The two hour and 36-minute match saw nine breaks of serve, and eight double faults from Djokovic. In his first clay match of 2019, Djokovic was visibly rusty, but his fighting spirit got him through.

"Is this the best that I’ve played on clay? No. Far from that," Djokovic said. "But at the same time it’s OK. It’s a building process. I just have to trust the journey so to say on getting to that desired level. Is that going to happen later this week or not, I don’t know. I’m going to try to make it happen."
