The act of watching Roger Federer can leave a fan wanting to go out and copy how he plays. This is especially true after his performance in the first three rounds of Roland Garros, in which he won a perfect nine sets out of nine.

It's impossible to learn to play like Federer overnight, but, fortunately, the Swiss himself gave Eurosport four simple tips to be more like him in one element of your game: the slice backhand.

1

"It starts with a good punch to the ball."

Even though it isn't your fastest shot, you don't want to decelerate through the ball.

2

Don't swing too steeply.

"Try to maybe stay on the ball level as you punch through the ball," Federer said.

3

Bend your knees.

Federer: "You want to try to be as low as possible so you have the best balance."

4

"Be strong in the elbow."

"The power comes from here," Federer said. "Bam!"

The 20-time Grand Slam champion defeated Casper Ruud, 6-3, 6-1, 7-6 (8), on Court Suzanne Lenglen on Friday, showing his return to Roland Garros has been a glowing success through three rounds.
