Fernando Verdasco's family has been in the restaurant business long before he ever picked up a racquet.

"My family since I was born [has] had three restaurants in Madrid," Verdasco said.

The business was growing long before then. Verdasco's father's great grandmother, nicknamed "La Rayúa" opened La Bola, the first of the family restaurants, back in 1870. As homage to the woman that started it all, Verdasco's father named the most recently opened restaurant after her.

"My sister is working there, my cousins, my aunts," the world No. 35-ranked Verdasco said. "So it's like a family business and I enjoy [it]."

At La Rayúa, the specialty is a Madrid stew, cooked in individual clay pots over a charcoal fire. Verdasco suggests a nap, or "siesta," after enjoying the rich dish of meats, spices and vegetables.
