And that's how it's done. Angelique Kerber beat  Karolina Pliskova, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to win her second Grand Slam title of her career—and of 2016. While she didn't have to beat Serena Williams this time (Pliskova did that for her in the semifinals), Kerber had a stellar fortnight, not dropping a set until the final.

On Monday when the new rankings come out, Kerber will take her place in history as the new No. 1. She's the first German woman since Steffi Graf to ascend the throne.
