WATCH: Osaka talks relationship with Serena

Naomi Osaka may be shy, but she's always going to tell it how it is. During the draw ceremony in Melbourne, she was interviewed inside Margaret Court Arena and talked about her quirks, her Grand Slam success, and Serena Williams.

The 22-year-old was asked if she's gotten any advice from Serena, who Osaka has a 2-1 winning record against.

"I'm going to have to give you a briefing of how I am as a person," Osaka said. "I don't talk to people, I just stare at them from a distance. That's lesson No.1. Lesson No. 2 is that if I were to talk to Serena, she talks to me and I get surprised that she talks to me, and then I don't talk back.

"I blank out when she talks to me, to be honest."

Last year, Osaka won her second Grand Slam, in Melbourne, over Petra Kvitova. She won her first major in 2018 at the US Open by beating Serena.

"I'm trying really hard to get the courage because, for me, it's very odd," Osaka continued. "She's the one that I admire... and the whole US Open thing, whatever, and she's still so nice to me. It's weird."

During Wednesday's Rally for Relief, Osaka joined Serena, Kvitova, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Caroline Wozniacki and more stars for a successful night of fundraising. What was Osaka thinking being right there alongside Serena?

"I'm thinking like, Bro, oh my God. Because Nadal was right next to me too right?" Osaka said. "It's the best players in the world, what are you talking about?"

Osaka is ranked No. 3 in the world, and is one of the best players in the world too, but she doesn't see it that way.

"I just got here," she said. "This is my second year kind of being on the higher level, but they've been there since I was little, low key."

On Monday, Osaka eased past Marie Bouzkova, 6-2, 6-4, while Serena dismissed Anastasia Potapova, 6-0, 6-3.

"I've always had some sort of admiration for her," Serena said of Osaka. "I thought the picture was cute, so I felt like I should like it and comment on it. Definitely not the mom though. I mean, definitely more or less, cousin?"
