WATCH: Roland Garros reveals early game plan for roof

Roland Garros has shared video of what the retractable roof on Philippe-Chatrier Court will look like once completed.

The 15,000 seat centre court will be redesigned to maintain outdoor conditions while also protecting against the inclement weather that has often plagued play. The $400 million redesign includes changes and expansion to the grounds (including a new greenhouse-inspired Court No. 1).

The finish date for the roof was initially planned for 2018, but has been pushed back to 2020 (amidst plenty of controversy and push back from the city). Roland Garros, which first took place in 1928, is the only major tournament that lacks a roofed court and lights (the US Open was the latest to join the covered club in 2016).

Play in Paris has severely suffered from rain delays. Last year, an entire day of matches was cancelled due to weather for the first time in sixteen years.

Players, and the world, will have to wait a lot longer to experience the roof in real life.
