WATCH: Sinner eats mid-match carrot in Vienna

The new crop of men's players is bringing innovation to the ATP Tour—not only in style of play, but also in mid-match fuel.

It started with Daniil Medvedev, who, in Barcelona this year, consumed salt straight from the shaker:

And, in Vienna on Tuesday, Jannik Sinner, the surging 18-year-old on the cusp of being the youngest man in the Top 100, traded the typical banana for a carrot—a carrot!—during his 6-3, 6-4 first-round win versus Philipp Kohlschreiber.

So far this year, Sinner has won four ITF and ATP Challenger titles and come through qualifying to make his US Open debut. In Antwerp last week, he tallied three Top-100 wins, including against Gael Monfils and Frances Tiafoe, to make the semifinals and bring his ranking up to No. 101.

Sinner faces Monfils again on Thursday in the second round of the Vienna ATP 500.
