NEW YORK—Tommy Paul kicked off his 2024 US Open preparation after reuniting with his No. 1 fan on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The tournament’s social media team was on hand to capture the moment.

“What’s up beast?” Paul asked Eddie, the young super fan whose enthusiastic support helped the American earn his best-ever result last summer at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Paul was down two sets in his second round against Roman Safiullin when Eddie whipped Court 17 into a frenzy that took his fave over the finish line in five thrilling sets.

“I told him after\], like, Dude, you have to come to the next one,” [Paul said after the comeback. “Get in contact with me, message me on Instagram or whatever and we’ll get it hooked up.”

True to his word, Paul made sure Eddie was prominently placed on Arthur Ashe Stadium for his next two matches against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Ben Shelton, promising he wouldn’t play another US Open match without him.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed an impressive 12 months since leaving Flushing Meadows, briefly becoming the top-ranked American after winning the biggest title of his career at Queen’s Club. At the Olympics, he won the bronze medal in men’s doubles with Taylor Fritz.

Seeded 14th for a second straight year, Paul has a projected fourth-round meeting with world No. 1 Jannik Sinner awaiting him in the second week.

With next week’s order of play yet to come out, one can guarantee Eddie will be front and center when Paul opens against Italian Lorenzo Sonego in the first round.
