NEW YORK—On Thursday, all of the US Open's attention was on chair umpire Mohamed Lahyani and Nick Kyrgios, but there was actually a more physically dramatic incident with an umpire this week.

On Wednesday, at the start of Fabio Fognini and Simone Bolelli’s three set win over Germans Kevin Krawietz and Maximilian Marterer, umpire John Blom toppled off the chair flat onto his back.

The players appeared stunned.

Blom was fine physically, but emotionally, he may need some recovery time.
