WATCH: Wawrinka shares footage from his childhood days

Stan Wawrinka was recently voted by a New York Timessurvey of experts as having the best one-handed backhand in all of men's tennis.

Unsurprisingly, it turns out that shot was many years in the making, evidenced by this throwback video posted by the three-time Slam champion:

That hairstyle may not have stood the test of time, but his stroke—with its two-handed take-back, on-edge follow-through and finish over the right shoulder—certainly did.

With his last two seasons inhibited by injuries, Wawrinka is gradually regaining his footing on tour. He defeated No. 11 Karen Khachanov in his first match of the year, in Doha, where he went on to make the quarterfinals and raise his ranking to No. 59.

He starts his Australian Open campaign against No. 83 Ernests Gulbis, who pulled off a five-set upset versus Alexander Zverev at Wimbledon last year to make the fourth round.
