Stan Wawrinka received a glorious emoji-filled birthday cake from the Miami Open, and another one during a birthday dinner at Komodo Miami with his friends and girlfriend Donna Vekic. But before all of that love showered down on him, he was beaten by rising ATP star Alexander Zverev in the fourth round.

The Swiss turned 32 as the teenage German outlasted him, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.

"I completely went down physically and mentally, and also my tennis was completely out," Wawrinka said. "I had no more gas."

Zverev will remember Wawrinka's birthday fondly as the first time he reached an ATP Masters 1000 quarterfinal in his young career.

He wasn't too worried about Wawrinka's birthday celebrations.

It's the second time in a row that Zverev has toppled Wawrinka, also beating him in the St. Petersburg final last fall.
