What if Andy Roddick beat Roger Federer in the 2003 Wimbledon semifinals?

On Thursday—his 43^rd birthday—Roger Federer revealed a new racquet and tennis accessories collection he helped design: the RF Collection by Wilson. More than anything, the giant release reinforced the Swiss superstar’s commitment to the brand he’s played with and endorsed since he began playing tournaments at 8 years old.

“It's a big honor for me to have an RF franchise at Wilson,” Federer told Tennis Channel's Steve Weissman in an extended interview you can watch below. ⤵️

But Federer isn’t the only (surefire) Hall of Famer in the Wilson family—Andy Roddick, who played with Babolat frames for his entire career, recently joined the team.

“I heard that, that’s cool,” said Federer in the interview.

Then Weissman asked the big question: Do you think maybe one of those Wimbledon finals would have gone differently if [Roddick] had had a Wilson in his hands?

Roddick went 0-4 against Federer on Centre Court, including final-round losses in 2004, 2005 and 2009.

Federer ruminated on before responding—and then said this:

I think he probably would have beaten me in the 2003 Wimbledon semis. And then what would have happened is, then I would have probably thought that I can’t win Wimbledon—and then I never would have won Wimbledon. Roger Federer on Andy Roddick

“So he had a lot to do with it if he would have changed to Wilson much earlier,” said Federer—with a big laugh. “I don’t know…

“He could have changed all of history!”
