Wimbledon forces junior boys players to change underwear

The all-white dress code at Wimbledon is deadly serious, in a from-your-head-to-your-toes comprehensive kind of way. On Thursday, the junior boys were under close scrutiny by officials on the look out for signs of color.

No. 11-seeded junior Jurij Rodionov had his undergarments closely inspected ahead of his fourth-round win.

He wasn't the only junior found in violation of the rules. On the same day, Zsombor Piros and Yibing Wu, the No. 1 boys' doubles seeds, were ordered off the court to change their dark underwear for white.

One of their opponents, Joao Da Silva also had to change since he was wearing gray underwear.

There have been dress-code miscreants before, though usually the close attention to detail is reserved for the pros. Earlier this fortnight, eventual finalist Venus Williams changed her bra mid-match because it was pink.

“I don’t want to talk about undergarments,” the 37-year-old said. “It’s kind of awkward for me. I’ll leave that to you. You can talk about it with your friends. I’m going to pass.”

Two years ago, Eugenie Bouchard earned some scrutiny for wearing a black bra, and even Roger Federer isn't immune to the strict rules. In 2013, he wore orange-soled shoes that were quickly banned.
