Wimbledon Takeaway #14: The hottest hot shots

A peculiarly scorching sun had its way with the Wimbledon grass over this fortnight. But the sun also sets. Here, our ongoing roundup of passing shots from SW19, a curated much-ado-about-everything – if a bit less manicured than the Wimble-lawns themselves.

A litany of truly memorable points and individual shots played out over the course of two weeks on the All England Club's grass, which took quite a pounding. It's a sampling, a smattering, of the best points of these Championships:

Commence the obligatory Dustin Brown mention. Battling against Joao Sousa in round one, the German connected on a sideways-flailing punch volley that left everyone–including himself–floored. (He would go on to lose swiftly but gamely to Andy Murray in the next round.)

Meanwhile, later on, leave it to Rafael Nadal and Gilles Muller, the latter the victor, to provide the point of the tournament. Those two did not disappoint, and left their all on the court in a five-set display of chess with sticks:

Taking a page out of Brown's own book, Grigor Dimitrov produced the best ATP match point of the tournament. Stylish as ever, that Artist Formerly Known as Baby Fed:

Flashy shotmaker Svetlana Kuznetsova commandeered the top match point in the women's draw, quickly ending the 2017 Wimbledon singles experience for Ons Jabeur, one of the best stories of Roland Garros this year.

Finally, the best point–or at least best get–in mixed doubles this fortnight came off the racquet of Joe Salisbury, partnering Katy Dunne against Anna Smith and Neal Skupski. Any point that involves a player leaping tall partitions in a single bound and returning to the court proper to pin down a declarative volley gets an A plus:

Many more fantastic, even jaw-dropping points and shots rained down on the balmy courts in London. These performers saluted above truly made Wimbledon the world's stage.
