On Friday in Rio, no one seemed more surprised to reach the Olympic Games final than Monica Puig, but she's did it with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 win over Petra Kvitova. The 22-year-old is the first Puerto Rican female to medal.

Her home nation is already incredibly proud, no matter what happens in the final.

History is already made, but gold would write even more in the record books. Men from the island country has won eight Olympic medals (two silver and six bronze).

The world No. 34 has enjoyed a breakthrough season, cracking the Top 50 for the first time and reaching her second career final in Sydney. But her week in Rio has been a shock.
